Wildcats Wraps Up Jeff Frank Invite Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcat men's tennis team wrapped up its first Fall event Sunday in the final day of the Jeff Frank Invite at Davidson on the Covington Tennis Courts.
Elon's Brian Kowalski won the overall singles title in the invitational, while the Phoenix No. 2 doubles team of Kowalski and Robert Lindgren took home the doubles title.
For the Wildcats, Zack Zapatero finished with a team-best 20 points on a pair of singles wins, while in doubles play Robert Lightbourn and Ricky Saad had 12 points.
Points were determined based on position, with No. 1 singles being 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which was worth two points. The top doubles spot was worth eight points and going down to No. 4, which was worth two.
Sunday, the lone singles win on the day came from Ethan Kallick at No. 2. The senior won a super tie-breaker, 10-3, after splitting his first two sets, 3-6, 6-3.
The Wildcats played eight doubles matches, facing UNC Asheville and Elon. Lightbourn and Saad won their second match on the weekend with a solid 9-8 decision. Saad teamed with Evan Watkins at No. 3 doubles vs. Elon, scoring an 8-4 win.
Kallick and Zapatero finished off a winning weekend with an 8-6 decision at No. 1 vs. UNC Asheville. Picking up the other doubles win on the day was Jordan Hart and Alex Howard at No. 4, tallying an 8-3 decision vs. Elon.
