DAVIDSON, N.C. – Duke's Brody Huitema struck twice, including in the 100th minute as the Blue Devils erased a two-goal deficit to end Davidson's unbeaten streak with a 3-2 overtime win Tuesday evening in front of a record 2,093 fans at Alumni Stadium.

The setback drops the Wildcats to 4-1-1 on the season, while the Blue Devils improve to 3-1-2.

"It was an exciting game with lots of drama," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "We have won some close games this year, including some comebacks, and tonight ended up being our turn to be on the other side."

Huitema's game-winner with 49 seconds remaining in the first overtime came off Seo-In Kim's second assist of the contest, a low centering pass that got through the Davidson defense.

After threatening with a pair of chances midway through the opening period, Davidson scored the game's first goal on a header from Valeriy Sviderskiy. The sophomore's second goal of season came in the 29th minute when Max Pragnell played the ball out to Chris Pettiglio, who connected with Sviderskiy on a cross.

Just minutes into the second half, Sviderskiy struck again when he beat the Blue Devil defense down the far side and slid a shot inside the near post for the second multiple-goal game of his brief career.

"Valeriy scored two great goals plus he did some quality work keeping possession and working hard on both sides of the ball," Spear said.

Not long after Sviderskiy's third goal in as many contests, Jake Keator just missed putting another strike on the board for the Wildcats, but his blast off a free kick was punched over the frame by Duke keeper Alex Long.

"I thought a third goal for us would have sealed the win. We had a couple good chances, but we also did not connect some passes at key moments to finish Duke off. It seemed at 2-0 we started to fall back a bit in to a shell and just try and see the game off by repelling their attacks."

Huitema found the back of the net with a 68th minute header off a Kim corner kick to cut the deficit back to one, 2-1.

"Duke played with good energy and kept bringing in fresh players to increase the tempo of the game, which you have to do when you are behind. There were times we needed to be more connected defensively and more composed when we won the ball off them."

Shortly after Davidson went a man down as a result of a red card, the Blue Devils took advantage and tied the score, 2-2, on Nick Palodichuk's 87th minute strike, which was set up by a Zach Mathers' through ball.

"The red card of course impacted the match. At that point, we were up 2-1 and needed to see off the final ten minutes for the win. But down a man created some more space for Duke, required us to pull back, and limited our chances to get forward," commented Spear.

"I knew it was going to be a close match, and we were confident that with a quality 90 minutes of play we could win. I give credit to Duke as they clawed their way back in to the game, when some teams would not have the ability or urgency to do so."

Matt Pacifici finished with a game-high six saves for Davidson, while Long stopped four shots.

"I can't complain. Players like John Pace, Max Riehemann, Drew Brown and Shane Macnamara left every ounce of energy they had on the field."

On Saturday, the Wildcats will begin a season-long four-game road trip when they head to Wofford for their conference opener at 1 p.m.
