DAVIDSON, N.C. – Two-time SoCon Player of the Year Sophia Aleksandravicius is taking her game across seas after a stellar career at Davidson, signing to play with Kibirkstis-Tiche-Iki Vilnius (Vilnius, LTU) as part of the Lithuanian Women's Basketball League in the EuroLeague Women.
The 6-5 forward joins a Kibirkstis-Tiche team that won the league's regular season title and tournament title during the 2012-13 season. It also finished in second place with a 4-2 mark in Group B of the Second Stage of the Baltic League, falling in the semifinals before winning in the third-place game. Aleksandravicius and KTIV will start Nov. 6 and play games in Spain, Poland, Moscow, Istanbul and Prague.
Aleksandravicius, who was a Full Court Mid-Major All-America Honorable Mention in 2012-13, graduated from Davidson as one of the all-time best players in women's basketball history. In addition to being a two-time SoCon Player and Defender of the Year, she was named the league's 2013 Female Athlete of the Year. Aleksandravicius became the seventh Wildcat overall to garner the league's top athlete of the year and first since Stephen Curry won it back-to-back years in 2007-08 and 2008-09.
A three-time All-SoCon First Team pick, Aleksandravicius set seven school records, including points (1,878), rebounds (1,143) and blocks (339), while also setting six new single-season records during her senior year. She is the only women's player, and just the third basketball player at Davidson, to have over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
The Pound Ridge, N.Y., native also set a single-game blocks record with 10 on her way to collecting the program's first triple-double, Feb. 16, 2013 with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks in home win vs. Furman.
Aleksandravicius put her name among the greats in the SoCon women's basketball record book during her four years as well. She finished ranked in the top-10 all-time in: points (10th), scoring (14.8- 9th), field goals (5th), field goal attempts (4th), free throws (9th), free throw attempts (10th), rebounding (4th) and blocks (10- 2nd-best single game, 102- 2nd-best in single season, 339- 1st).
She led Davidson to back-to-back 22-win seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13, while helping the Wildcats reach the postseason both years with bids into the Women's NIT. Aleksandravicius guided last year's squad to the program's first postseason victory with her 50th career double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds in an 82-73 road win at Old Dominion in the first round of the WNIT.
As a senior, Aleksandravicius led the SoCon this past season in scoring (16.5), rebounding (9.9) and blocks (102- 2.9 per game / 10th in the nation), all career highs. She wrapped up her stellar career by scoring in double digits 104 times, including 28 20-point outings and a pair of 30-point games. The forward registered 56 double-digit rebounding games during her career, with 22 of those coming in her final season.
