RALEIGH, N.C. – Davidson junior Andrew Lantz placed third in the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 50.34 seconds at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet Friday at Paul Derr Track.
Although the time is just 0.11 seconds shy of Lantz's season-best and school-record time of 1:50.23, Lantz was looking to run below 1:50 to improve his chances of qualifying for the NCAA East Region Championship meet. Lantz's 1:50.23 ranks 41st in the East as of Friday evening, which places him just inside the Top 48 that qualifies for regionals.
Lantz will look to improve his school-record 1500-meter run time of 3:47.55, which ranks 71st, Saturday at the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia. He will be joined by senior Vincent Weir, who will look to improve upon his school-record time in the 3000-meter steeplechase of 9:08.72, which ranks 65th in the East. Lantz will likely need to shave two seconds off of his 1500m, while Weir will likely need to shave six seconds off of his steeplechase time.
This is the final weekend of the track and field regular season. The NCAA Regional fields will be announced Thursday, May 16.
