Lantz Breaks Davidson 800M Record Again; Weir Breaks Steeplechase Record

DURHAM, N.C./SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Andrew Lantz and Vincent Weir broke a pair of Davidson distance records to lead Davidson at the Duke Invitational Saturday in Wallace Wade Stadium, while other members of the Wildcat men's track and field team competed at the Terrier Relays hosted by Wofford.
Lantz broke his own school record in the 800-meter run for the second time this season, finishing second in 1 minute, 50.23 seconds to lead Davidson in the event. He finished the 800m in 1:50.25 in March at the Charlotte 49er Classic and now owns the top four performances in the 800m in school history. Sal del Giudice also competed in the race, finishing in 1:55.52 after competing in the 1500-meter run Friday, in which he placed 13th in 3:57.64.
Weir placed fifth in the steeplechase in 9:08.72, breaking the school record of 9:14.39 set by Ian Tupper in 2011.
Wes Reynolds posted the top finish Friday, completing the 5000-meter run in 14 minutes, 54.25 seconds to place 10th in the 'B' section of the event.
At Wofford, Michael Lorentsen posted a Davidson all-time top-10 performance in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 3 ¼ inches (4.35m) to place second. Davidson also received top-10 finishes from Nate Faubion, who took sixth in 52.17 seconds in the 400-meter dash, and Stewart Dalton, who placed 10th in the long jump in 20-3 ¾ (6.19m). Cyrus Bahram led Davidson in the 200-meter dash in 23.35 seconds.
Davidson will next compete in the Carolina's Cup at Winthrop Friday.
