DAVIDSON, N.C. – The No. 9 Duke Blue Devils used a 7-0 run to erase an early deficit and handed Davidson a 14-6 defeat at home, snapping the Wildcats' school-record seven-game win streak Wednesday evening in women's lacrosse at Richardson Stadium.

The Wildcats (9-6), who set the school-record Sunday with a victory at Coastal Carolina, were unable to capitalize on their early 2-0 lead through the first five minutes of play.

Emily Cooke scored the first goal and Emma Sissman followed with her 22nd score of the season off an assist from Fucigna two minutes later for the early Wildcat advantage.

It was short-lived though, the Blue Devils (10-4) would score seven straight goals, including two from Kelci Smesko, over the next 15 minutes to grab a 7-2 lead and never looked back.

Kerrin Maurer and Makenzie Hommel each had a goal and assist during the spurt. Maurer finished with a team-best five points on two goals and three assists. Hommel finished with three points.

Taylor Trimble led Duke with three goals as six different Blue Devils had multi-goal games.

Davidson was paced by Fucigna's three points as she added a pair of goals to go with her early assist. Cooke moved one point away from tying Fucigna's single-season record for points with two, giving her 73 points (28 goals, 45 assists) on the season.

The duo stopped the Blue Devils' run with a pair of goals at the 7:19 and 5:07 marks of the first half to make it 7-4, but Duke closed the period with two more scores for a 9-4 lead going into halftime.

Duke put the game away with a 5-0 run in the early stages of the second half as Davidson trailed by eight at 13-5. Alanna Parker added the Wildcats last goal of the game at the 8:28 mark, making it 13-6.

Senior keeper Jessica Melby was active between the pipes, finishing with nine saves and a team-high four groundballs. It was the time since March 26 she had given up double-digit goals in game.

Duke fired off 30 shots compared to Davidson's 15, but the Wildcats had 16 groundballs to the Blue Devils' 17 and went 12-for-14 on clear attempts. Duke got six of their goals on free-position shots, going 6-for-10.

The Wildcats forced five of Duke's 13 turnovers, with five different 'Cats getting a caused turnover.

Davidson concludes its regular season with a Big South contest at Winthrop this Sunday, April 21. Gametime is set for 1 p.m. A win would wrap up the Big South regular season title for the Wildcats in their first season in the league.
