ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Sophia Aleksandravicius registered her 47th career double-double and Davidson's defense held UNCG to 24.7 percent shooting in picking up a convincing 70-47 win in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Kimmel Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (20-11) move into the semifinals for the second straight season and will face the winner of No. 3 Elon and No. 6 Samford tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. over at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Aleksandravicius tallied game highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds, while adding five blocks, two steals and three assists. The two-time SoCon Player of the Year picked up her SoCon-best 17th double-double.
The senior, who had 13 points and seven boards in the first half, set a pair of new Wildcat single-game SoCon Tournament records with five blocks and 13 rebounds.
Laura Murray reached the double-digit mark in points for the 19th time with 10, while Hannah Early and Jasmine Calin chipped in nine points each off the bench. Dakota Dukes hauled in a career-best 10 rebounds.
UNCG closed the year at 8-23 and was led by Breonna Patterson's 16 points. SoCon Freshman of the Year by the media Lucy Mason picked up 12 points.
The Wildcats raced out to a commanding 23-7 advantage after an Early triple from the top of the key. The defense held UNCG to just 25 percent shooting in the first half, while pushing its lead to 34-20 at the break.
A 17-7 run to open the second half pushed the lead out to 51-27 after a Calin offensive rebound and then a layup for the senior. The Wildcats went on to lead by as many as 26 in picking up its sixth 20-point win of the year.
Davidson dominated in the paint, dropping in 44 points, on its way to shooting 50.9 percent. It shot 55.6 percent in the second half.
GAME NOTES: The Wildcats have won 16 of its last 20 games … Davidson has won the past six consecutive meetings vs. UNCG and 12 of the last 15 overall … the Wildcats are 9-8 in quarterfinal games … Aleksandravicius recorded her 100th career double-digit scoring game … the 'Cats improved 13-19 all-time at the league tournament … for first time in school history, Davidson has had back-to-back 20 win campaigns.
