Men's Track & Field's del Giudice Wins 800M at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore Sal del Giudice led the Davidson men's track and field team at the Winthrop Invitational Saturday with a victory in the 800-meter run on Winthrop University's Irwin Belk Track.
Del Giudice completed the race in 1 minute, 54.12 seconds to earn a place on Davidson's all-time top-10 performers list in the event and win by 0.78 seconds. He was joined in the top five by teammate Patrick Rollo, who placed fourth in 1:56.17.
Junior Michael Lorentsen also earned a top-five finish, clearing 13 feet, 11 ¼ inches (4.25m) in the pole vault to place fifth. Freshman Xzavier Killings earned the same place in the triple jump with a top mark of 44-3 ¼ (13.49m).
Sophomore Wesley Laytham led the 'Cats in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 3:59.79.
The 'Cats entered a pair of relay teams too, completing the 4x100-meter relay in 43.58 seconds to place sixth and completing the 4x400 in 3:26.17 to place fourth.
The 'Cats also competed Friday. Stewart Dalton led Davidson with a sixth-place finish in the long jump, nearing his personal best with a leap of 22 feet, 5 ¼ inches (6.84m). Nate Faubion led the 'Cats in the 400-meter dash preliminaries in 51.52 seconds, but did not advance to the finals.
Davidson again competes in two different meets next. Select runners will participate in the Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday, while the rest of the squad will compete at the Terrier Relays hosted by Wofford.
