Highlights

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State scored seven runs in the first four innings before allowing a hit in a 10-4, series-clinching win over Davidson in Southern Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Appalachian State (7-2, 2-1 SoCon) RHP Sam Agnew-Wieland (3-0) was perfect through the first three innings before hitting a batter and issuing a walk in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Ryan Lowe (1-for-2) singled up the middle for the first Davidson (5-4, 1-2 SoCon) hit in the fifth inning.

Centerfielder Forrest Brandt and right fielder Nathan Becker led the Wildcats with two hits and an RBI each, while freshman left fielder Lee Miller hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after second baseman Hector Crespo (1-for-5, RBI) reached on a fielding error and then scored on an RBI-triple by third baseman William Head (1-for-4). Shortstop Will Callaway (2-for-4) and right fielder Preston Troutman (3-for-5) added RBI-singles later in the inning.

An RBI-groundout by Dillon Dobson and another RBI-single by Troutman in the third inning gave Appalachian a 5-0 advantage. Crespo hit an RBI-single in the fourth inning, stole second and third bases, and then scored on a wild pitch for a 7-0 advantage.

Brandt drove in Becker for Davidson's first run in the sixth inning by beating out an infield hit, but App State added three more runs in the seventh inning, as Jaylin Davis (2-for-4) drove in two with a base hit up the middle and catcher Josh Zumbrook drove in one on a ground out.

The Wildcats fought back as Milller led the bottom half of the seventh off with a home run inside the right foul pole and Becker added an RBI-double down the left field line. The 'Cats then loaded bases in the eighth inning, but only scored one run on a walk by pinch-hitter Ben Arkin.

RHP Clark Beeker (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the first-inning scoring, of which just one run was earned. He worked 2.0 innings and was relieved after retiring the side in the second inning. Six different pitchers worked the remainder of the game.

Agnew-Wieland finished after seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out eight.

Davidson will travel to Chapel Hill to face No. 1 North Carolina Wedesday at 3 p.m., and will then return to conference play by hosting Western Carolina in a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Wilson Field.
