Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (4-2) has won four out of five home contests to start the season. Senior Andrew Barna enters the game as the SoCon's top hitter with a .520 average. He batted .615 (8-for-13) in three games over the weekend, and hit his first home run since his sophomore season. Freshman Lee Miller has been Davidson's top power hitter as he hit his third home run in just his fifth career game. His .952 slugging percentage (fourth) and .429 batting (t-9th) both rank in the top-10 in the SoCon. As a team, Davidson is batting .313 to rank third in the league. Moss is making his first career start after making his debut Sunday, allowing just one hit in one inning of work against Georgetown.
Scouting the Spartans
USC Upstate (5-1) posted a perfect 4-0 mark last week, knocking off Presbyterian 5-2 in mid-week action and sweeping George Washington, a team Davidson also swept in a snow-shortened two-game series, in a three-game weekend series. The Upstate pitching staff was nearly flawless against the Colonials, allowing just four unearned runs. The Spartans combined to record 19 strikeouts in 25.0 innings of work. The Spartans are outscoring their opponents by 32 runs over the first six games. The Spartans are hitting .368 as a team, currently the highest average in the A-Sun.
Series History
This is just the second meeting between the teams, as the first was an 8-7 win in Spartanburg for Davidson last season.
