DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson got off to a strong start in a busy weekend for itself, cruising to a 7-0 win over visiting Belmont Abbey Friday afternoon in women's tennis at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (4-2), who will play a doubleheader tomorrow, took all three doubles spots and then swept through the singles for the shutout victory.
All three doubles teams blanked the Crusaders (0-5) by the scores 8-0. Elaina Cummer won her team-best fifth doubles match of the season as she teamed with Nisha Crouser at No. 1.
Cummer and Crouser combined to allow just six games to their respective opponents. Cummer won her first career match at the top singles slot, taking home a 6-2, 6-3 decision. Crouser tallied her fourth singles win in a row, giving up just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Katharine Miller.
Catherine Wood took home her first victory of 2013, and sixth for her career, with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3, and won her third doubles match with a victory at No. 2.
Elise Held, Frizzi Bschorer and Tamara Hill rolled in their singles matches, blanking each of their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Bschorer and Hill registered their first wins of the season, while Held improved to 3-3.
Sophomore Blake Nickles also recorded a win, picking up the doubles victory with Bschorer at No. 3.
Davidson continues the weekend with a doubleheader at home against Wingate (10 a.m.) and Brevard College (2 p.m.) as the Wildcats continues on with their nine-match homestand.
