Wildcats Split at Queens, Best Campbell

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Davidson women's swimming & diving team posted a pair of victories, downing both host Queens and CCSA foe Campbell, while the men's squad fell to Queens in Saturday afternoon action at the Levine Center.
 
The women earned a close 134-126 win over the Royals and bested Campbell by a score of 163-97. The men took a 164-96 loss to the Royals.
 
The women's 400-yard medley relay opened the meet with an overall victory as Lauren Malachowski, Meredith Nakano, Elise Lankiewicz and Angie Healy combined for a time of 3:56.80. The men's quartet of Luke Burton, Grant Smith, Will Fox and Cameron Bard claimed second in their race with a time of 3:29.47.
 
Anna Blair Bullock took second vs. Queens (fourth overall) in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:45.59. Max Schimanski was the runner-up on the men's side, touching the wall in 9:55.09.
 
Lankiewicz took first overall in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:53.49 in her first individual event of the day. Healy finished third overall in the event, taking second vs. Campbell, in a time of 1:56.27. Dylan Ludwick touched second on the men's side, swimming a 1:44.21. He was followed by Brandon Kegley in third with a time of 1:45.29.
 
Malachowski finished second vs. Campbell, fourth overall, in the 100-yard backstroke. She clocked in at 1:00.10 in the event. Burton was the runner-up in the men's event, swimming a time of 52.26.
 
In the 100-yard breaststroke Katy Williams posted a runner-up finish overall, taking first vs. Campbell, with a time of 1:06.88. Nakano, who posted a time of 1:07.22, closely followed her. Smith finished third on the men's side, clocking in at 59.07. Spencer Gill followed in 59.72 for fourth place.
 
Lankiewicz picked up a win vs. Campbell, taking second overall, in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.13. She was followed by Emily Covert, who took third overall in 2:11.81, and Liz Mace who finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:12.23. Thomas Bigham represented the men with a second-place finish in a time of 1:56.50.
 
The women posted a one-two punch in the 50-yard freestyle, with Erica Clancy and Kassie Shannon posting top times. Clancy claimed the win in 24.28 with Shannon close behind in 24.56. Bard finished in the runner-up spot in the men's event, touching in 21.63. Kegley followed with a time of 21.85.
 
Healy came away with the win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the pads in 53.52. Shannon was fourth overall in the event, swimming a time of 53.92. Bard and Kegley once again took second and third, respectively for the men. Bard finished in 47.19, while Kegley touched the wall in 47.24.
 
Malachowski touched third overall in the 200-yard backstroke, completing the event in a time of 2:10.76. Emma Tobey followed in fourth at 2:15.23. Burton was the men's runner-up, touching the wall in 1:56.10.
 
The Wildcats put up another one-two finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with the duo of Nakano and Williams. Nakano earned the win in 2:24.43 while Williams followed in 2:25.23. Smith took second for the men, swimming a 2:09.39. Gill was close behind in third at 2:11.66.
 
In the 500-yard freestyle, Lankiewicz earned a win vs. Campbell (second overall) with a mark of 5:02.83. Ludwick touched second for the men, swimming a 4:44.23. Schimanski (4:51.00) and Ben Stewart-Bates (4:57.27) followed in third and fourth, respectively.
 
Nakano won again in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 57.94. Mace was the runner-up in a time of 59.41 while Fox took the men's race, clocking in at 51.97.
 
In the 400-yard IM, Smith set a pool record on the men's side in the new facility with a time of 4:08.45 for the win. Covert took second vs. Queens, fourth overall, with a 4:43.29.
 
The women's 400-yard free relay defeated Campbell and took second to Queens to close out the meet. Clancy, Shannon, Malachowski and Healy posted a time of 1:37.14 in the event. The men's team finished second in their event, as Bard, Burton, Ludwick and Kegley combined for a time of 1:25.43.
 
Davidson will prep for the annual Total Performance Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College. The event will run Dec. 5-7 in Gambier, Ohio.
