Wildcats Wrap Up Fall Season at UNCW Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team wrapped up their Fall season with a trip to Wilmington, N.C., over the weekend, Nov. 1-3, competing in the UNC Wilmington Invitational.
Six Wildcats picked up at least one win on the weekend, with freshman Jordan Hart coming away with a pair of wins in singles action. Robert Lightbourn and Evan Watkins tallied a doubles wins together.
Hart's two wins came Friday and Saturday. He started the invite with a straight set 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Cedric Rutsaert of Tulane. He followed that up with a three-set victory over his Richmond opponent. The first-year player won the first set 7-5, before falling 6-4 to force a third set. The final set went down to the wire as Hart took a tie-breaker win, 7-4, to win the set (7-6) and match.
He dropped his final match of the weekend, a 6-4, 6-0 decision to host UNC Wilmington.
Evan Watkins, Ethan Kallick, Ricky Saad and J.B. Gough each picked up one singles win on the weekend. Watkins' win came on the first day, a three-set come from behind. Down 6-3 after the first set, the sophomore tallied a pair of 6-2, 6-2 wins for the set victory.
Watkins also earned his doubles win with Lightbourn when the duo took an 8-3 decision over a pair from Richmond Sunday.
Kallick, who played at the No. 2 singles, scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Richmond on Saturday. He nearly came away with a second win on the weekend, forcing a third set against his Seahawk opponent. After falling 6-2 in the first set, he came back with a 6-3 decision, before falling 6-2 in the final set.
Saad and Gough each earned their singles wins on Saturday against Richmond. Saad, the freshman, netted a 6-2, 6-2 decision, while his classmate Gough, needed a third set to finish off his Spider opponent, taking a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 victory.
Also competing over the weekend was Alex Howard and Ted Bolton, taking part in both singles and doubles.
Davidson opens the Spring season on the road at Virginia Tech, Jan. 18. It will also play a neutral site match against Yale there the next day, Jan. 19.
