Osment, Fritz Honored as Wildcats Finish Sixth at SoCon Meet

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Erin Osment claimed a top-15 finish and joined freshman Jenny Fritz in receiving all-conference honors as the Davidson women's cross country team finished sixth at the 2013 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, held in Birmingham, Ala., Saturday morning.
In their final SoCon appearance, the Wildcats posted a pair of top-30 finishes to end with 177 total points. Furman claimed the team championship with a low of 48 points. Runner-up Elon was close behind with 50 points, followed by UNCG in third with 62 points. Appalachian State earned 99 points for a fourth-place finish, while Chattanooga rounded out the top five with 136 points.
Osment, who has been a team leader all season, paced the Wildcats with a 14th-place finish. She crossed the line in 18:38.12. Fritz ran a time of 18:53.32 to take 29th overall. Both were honored for their efforts, as Osment was named to the all-conference second team and Fritz garnered all-freshman accolades.
Sarah Paddon finished 39th overall, finishing in a season-best time of 19:15.87. Manya Swick finished the course in 19:40.43, taking 47th place. Swick was the first of four straight Wildcats to finish, as freshman Hayden Bates finished 48th in her SoCon debut with a time of 19:49.54. Ashlyn Gruber followed in 19:52.28 for 49th place, and Olivia Menden rounded out the group in 50th place with a mark of 19:52.59.
Davidson will head to Charlottesville, Va., for the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional meet November 15.
