Davidson Men Set for NCAA Southeast Regionals Friday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet hosted by the University of Virginia Friday at 12:00 p.m. in Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.

The trio of Sal del Giudice, Whitner Chase and Daniel Samet have led the Wildcats in the five meets so far this season. Del Giudice has paced Davidson in the last three, finishing one place shy of receiving All-Southern Conference recognition in the 'Cats last outing at the SoCon Championships. He has placed in the Top 25 in four out of five meets.
Samet led the 'Cats to victory in the season-opening Carolina Challenge with a fourth place finish, and Chase was the top finisher at the Wake Forest Invitational in 13th. Chase finished four spots behind del Giudice at the SoCon Championships in 19th, while Samet took 24th.
No. 17 Eastern Kentucky and No. 18 North Carolina are expected to be the top contenders for the region title, while host Virginia is also a favorite.
A pair of seniors led Davidson to a 19th-place finish in last year's regional in nearby McAlpine Park in Charlotte. Grayam Sailor-Tynes was Davidson's third finisher in 32:35.34 in 95th place, and was followed by del Giudice in 32:19.11 and Samet in 32:37.31. The field consisted of 34 teams and 228 runners, with Virginia winning the team championship. Individual champion Soufiane Bouchikhi of Eastern Kentucky is returning to defend his title.
