Davidson Men Place 20th at NCAA Region Meet

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Davidson men's cross country team ran to a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship, hosted Friday afternoon by the University of Virginia in Panorama Farms.
Sal del Giudice led the Wildcats for a fourth consecutive meet, turning in the second-fastest time ever run by a Wildcat on a 10K course, finishing 73rd in 30 minutes. 57.7 seconds. The rest of the Wildcats' scoring group also turned in all-time Davidson top-10 times. Daniel Samet placed 85th in 31:06.7, Ryan Phillips placed 91st in 31:11.1, Whitner Chase placed 114th in 31:36.0 and Grayam Sailor-Tynes finished 140th in 32:08.9.
Davidson totaled 496 points to narrowly trail Wake Forest (17th place, 487 points), future Atlantic 10 foe Richmond (18th, 488), and Clemson (19th, 490). The Wildcats held a 48-point advantage over Campbell in 21st place.
The Southern Conference was led by UNCG in 11th place, while Furman and Appalachian State took 15th and 16th, respectively, and Davidson bested Western Carolina (31st) and College of Charleston (32nd.) George Mason was the top A-10 team in 13th place, while VCU finished 27th. Davidson also bested county rival Charlotte, which placed 24th.
Eastern Kentucky cruised to the team championship with just 58 points, placing a pair of runners in the top six. Paul Chelimo of UNCG claimed the individual title in 28:37.3.
The meet concluded the 2013 men's cross country season for Davidson.
