DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat men's tennis team wrapped up hosting their second straight invitational by finishing out the final day of the Jim Causey Invite at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats played Appalachian State and Charlotte to finish out the four-team invite. They were held without an individual point in singles and doubles action vs. the 49ers, but captured a pair of singles wins vs. ASU and a doubles match.
Robert Lightbourn and Alex Howard nearly scored singles wins at No. 1 and 5, respectively, against their Charlotte opponents. Lightbourn forced a third-set super tie-breaker with a solid 6-1 second-set win after falling 6-4 in the first set. The senior's run stopped their as he lost 10-2 in the tie-breaker.
Howard won his first set, 7-5, but fell 6-2 in the next set to go to a third-set super tie-breaker, where the sophomore fell 10-3.
The sophomore teamed with Ted Bolton in doubles action, coming the closest to scoring points vs. Charlotte, falling 8-6 at No. 4 doubles. The duo came back though, and earned four points on the day with a 8-2 decision vs. SoCon-foe Appalachian State. They finished the two-day invite with eight total points.
Earning singles wins on the day vs. their Mountaineer opponents was Jordan Hart and J.B. Gough. Hart, who won a doubles match on Friday, picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 singles slot for 10 points.
Hart and Evan Watkins nearly pulled out their doubles match vs. ASU, falling in a battle to the end, 9-8 at No. 2.
Gough gave the Wildcats a second singles win with a 6-1, 7-5 decison at No. 6 position for six points.
Davidson hits the road for its next Fall event, going to the Wake Forest Invitational, Oct. 11-13.
