Davidson Eighth in Blue Ridge Mountain Open

BOONE, N.C. – The Davidson men's cross country team placed eighth overall and second out of five Southern Conference teams Friday afternoon in the Blue Ridge Mountain Open at the Don Kennedy trails.
The meet was the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Championships, which are set to take place Nov. 2 in Birmingham, Ala. Host Appalachian State won with 102 points, while the Wildcats were the second SoCon team to finish, placing eighth with 213 points. Elon trailed in 12th with 335 points, and was followed by Western Carolina (16th place, 444 points) and Wofford (24th, 686).
Junior Sal del Giudice led the 'Cats in the 28-team, 229-runner field, placing 26th on the 8K course in 25 minutes, 23.11 seconds. Classmate Whitner Chase followed closely in 29th in 25:25.68. Sophomore Daniel Samet placed 57th in 25:51.61, senior Grayam Sailor-Tynes was 67th in 25:57.13, and sophomore Ryan Phillips was 71st in 26:01.33 to complete Davidson's scoring group.
Unattached runner Sandy Roberts won the meet in 24:19.28, while Cedarville senior Matt Brooker was the top collegiate finisher in 24:27.07.
