DAVIDSON, N.C. – Jake Cohen recorded a game-high 20 points and frontcourt mate De'Mon Brooks scored his 1,000th career point to lead five Wildcat double-figure scorers as Davidson cruised past UNCG, 85-53, in Southern Conference men's basketball action Saturday at Belk Arena.
 
Brooks became the 43rd Wildcat in school history to hit the 1,000-point plateau when he knocked down a pair of free throws with 5:26 to play.
 
Chris Czerapowicz led Davidson (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) with 10 rebounds, as the Wildcats dominated the glass, 54-24, recording 28 second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds. Cohen had eight boards and two blocks in addition to his 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Brooks had seven boards to go along with 14 points. Nik Cochran added 12 points, while Tyler Kalinoski and JP Kuhlman had 11 and 10, respectively.
 
Derrell Armstrong led UNCG (2-10, 1-1 SoCon) with 17 points, hitting 5-of-6 from the field.
 
Davidson held UNCG to 33.3 percent shooting from the field, while shooting 42.9 percent for the game.
 
Racing out to a 16-4 advantage, the Wildcats recorded 15 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds in the first half to take a 45-27 lead at the break.
 
The Wildcats opened the second half on a 21-7 streak capped off by a Tom Droney 20-foot jumper that made it 66-34 with 11:43 to play.
 
A Kuhlman 3-pointer at the 6:27 mark gave Davidson its largest lead of the contest, 77-40.
 
Davidson, the second-best free throw shooting team in the nation, continued shooting well from the charity stripe, hitting 23-of-27 attempts led by Cochran's perfect 6-for-6 night. Cochran entered the game as the nation's leading free throw shooter.
 
The 'Cats were able to use their entire active roster as they closed out the game.
 
Davidson will enjoy a week break before returning to the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 12 with a 4 p.m. contest at Furman.
