Wildcats to Run in Charlotte Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's and women's cross country teams will stick close to home for their next meet, competing in the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational hosted by the Charlotte 49ers at McAlpine Park on Friday.

Forty-four programs will compete at the meet, including fellow SoCon members Appalachian State, College of Charleston, Elon and Western Carolina. ACC members Clemson, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, as well as the SEC's South Carolina will also be represented at the event.

McAlpine Park is the site of the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional meet, which will be held on November 10.

The women's team ran two races in the park last year, coming in fifth at the Royal Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University and 13^th in the Charlotte Cross Country Invite. They will also return on October 12 for the 2012 Royal Cross Country Invitational.

The men's team only competed in the Royal Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Park in 2011, winning the team title.

The meet will kick off at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 6,000-meter championship gold “A” race, followed by the men's race at 4:15. The women's 6,000-meter green “B” race will start at 4:50 p.m., with the men's 8,000-meter green “B” race to follow at 5:20. Awards will be handed out at 6 p.m. with the top two teams and top 10 individuals being honored.
