DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson will continue its four-game homestand and conference play Friday evening with a 7 p.m. contest against Elon at Alumni Stadium.
“Elon is a very good program as defending SoCon tournament champs,” commented Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “And they have been in very good form this season.”
Winners of four of their last five, the Wildcats enter 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the SoCon following a 4-0 setback to UNCG Tuesday.
Valeriy Sviderskiy continues to lead the Wildcats in scoring with four goals, despite playing just over 30 minutes per contest (5 games played). Seniors Brian McGue (3G, 1A) and Andrew DiLallo (3G, 1A) are right behind the freshman with seven total points each.
Led by one of the nation's top goal scorers, Chris Thomas, the Phoenix enter their conference opener 5-2-1 after playing Radford to a 1-1 draw Tuesday.
“Chris Thomas is clearly a top, top striker in our Conference – and beyond. I will not be unhappy to see him graduate and move on to the pros,” Spear said.
Thomas, a two-time National Player of the Week, enters ranked second in the nation in total goals (11), points per game (3.14), total points (22) and goals per game (1.43).
“We will have our hands full to keep him, and other talented Elon attackers, under wraps.”
Ranked fourth in the South Region, the Phoenix are also receiving votes in the NSCAA Top-25.
Davidson, which won last year's meeting 3-2 (2OT), is looking for its first home win over Elon since the 2004 season.
“Our focus will also be playing our style of play as this is a home match and we want to have a positive flow and attacking sharpness.”
The Wildcats will conclude the home portion of their schedule with a pair of contests next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. game against Wake Forest Tuesday evening.
