DAVIDSON, N.C. – Hakahn Ilhan tied a school record with four assists to lead UNCG to a 4-0 victory over Davidson in both team's Southern Conference opener Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.

The setback ends a four-match winning streak for the Wildcats as they fall to 4-3-1 overall, while UNCG moves to 3-4-2.

“UNCG was the sharper team tonight and they scored good, early goals to seize the night,” said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “I thought their savvy and maturity exposed us. We are disappointed in our first-half effort and performance.”

Despite the loss, Davidson finished with a 16-13 edge in shots.

The Spartans scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute when Ilhan played the ball along the top of the box to Lukas Zarges, who turned and struck a right-footed shot far post for his second goal of the season.

At the 26:27 mark, Austin Miller scored the first of three UNCG goals over a seven minute span to extend the Spartans' advantage to 4-0. Brian Graham (31') and Oddur Gudmundsson (34') also added strikes during the stretch.

Along with Illhan's record-tying performance, Zarges and Justin Jones also set up UNCG goals.

One of the Wildcats better scoring chances came in the 54th minute when Andrew DiLallo's header was touched just wide of frame by Spartan keeper Peyton Ford.

“We had the better of the second half. Unfortunately we could not pull ourselves out of the big hole. And our guys now must know more clearly what is expected in a conference match," Spear said.

Both clubs attempted four corner kicks.

Davidson will continue its four-game homestand and conference play with a 7 p.m. contest against Elon Friday evening at Alumni Stadium.
