Davidson Sends Eight to CofC Invitational Over Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wildcat women's tennis competed in their second Fall event over the weekend with a trip to College of Charleston's Invitational, Friday through Sunday, with eight players competing in singles and doubles action.
Freshman Elaina Cummer (Plano, Texas), coming off a singles title at the Davidson Invite, competed in the A1 singles draw. She opened with a tiebreaker win, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, but fell in the second round to host CofC. Cummer came back with another impressive tie-breaker win over Maddox of the Cougars, 1-6, 7-6, 10-5, before falling in her final match to finish sixth overall.
Nisha Crouser (Columbus, Ohio) and Elise Held (Butler, Pa.) each represented Davidson in the A2 singles bracket. Crouser had the best showing, picking up a win by way of a tie breaker over Coastal Carolina, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
Frizzi Bschorer (Barnin, Germany) started off her singles draw in B1 singles with a tiebreaker win over a player from Coastal Carolina by the score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 to move to the second round. The junior finished eighth after dropping her next two sets, one in a close tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Joining Bschorer in the B1 singles bracket was Blake Nickles (Anderson, S.C.).
Tamara Hill (Chapel, N.C.) and Courtney McCray (Fairway, Kan.) each won a singles match in the B2 singles draw. Hill rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 blanking against Coastal Carolina on her way to sixth place, while McCray closed out the weekend with a solid 6-0, 6-1 win to earn seventh.
In doubles action, Bschorer and Hill teamed up at the No. 3 in the round robin draw to win the title. They scored two 8-1 decisions over pairs from Samford and Coastal, and then closed the weekend out with a strong 8-2 decision over Charlotte.
Davidson takes some time off before heading to Wake Forest Invitational, Oct. 5-7.
