
‘Cats Welcome Three to Belk Arena for Wildcat Classic

DAVIDSON, N.C. – High Point, Green Bay and N.C. Central will travel to Belk Arena to take part in the annual Wildcat Classic, hosted by the Davidson volleyball team this weekend.
The 2012 season marks the 17th consecutive year the Wildcats have hosted the tournament. Davidson had also previously hosted the event from 1990-94 and boasts a 39-32 record in the 21 events.
High Point, whom the 'Cats will take on Friday evening, enters the tournament with an 8-4 overall record and a 3-2 record at their own High Point University Classic last weekend. The Wildcats and the Panthers have met 16 times prior to this season, with Davidson holding a 9-7 series lead. The Panthers last played in the Wildcat Classic in 2010.
Next up for the 'Cats is a tilt with N.C. Central, who head to Davidson with a 2-11 overall record. The Eagles went 1-3 last weekend at the Kennesaw State Owls Classic with a 3-0 win over Tennessee State at the tournament. NCCU is 0-3 against the SoCon, falling to Chattanooga, UNCG and Elon earlier in the season. The meeting will be the fourth-all time between the two teams, with Davidson leading the series at 3-0.
The Wildcats will round things out with a match against Green Bay on Saturday evening. The Phoenix arrive with a 4-5 record and are coming off of a 1-1 weekend at the South Dakota State Jackrabbit Invitational. The meeting is the first-ever between the two programs.

Two Named to WF All-Tourney Team
Senior setter Ariel Ley and junior outside hitter Caroline Brown earned all-tournament team honors for their efforts in leading Davidson to a 2-1 record at the Wake Forest Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Ley paced the Wildcats with 129 assists for an average of 9.21 per set and also served up four aces in the three matches. She also had 27 digs. Brown's 44 kills led the 'Cats, and she also tied for the team lead with five aces. Brown recorded nine total blocks and finished second with 34 digs across the three games.
Crenshaw Honored at UNF Invite
Senior libero Molly Crenshaw was named to the Radisson/UNF Invite All-Tournament team for her performance in Jacksonville this past weekend. Crenshaw led the 'Cats with 85 digs for an average of 5.67 per set. She also served up an ace and assisted on four kills.
New Kid on the Block
Freshman Hannah Rau has emerged as one of the Wildcats' top blockers this season. Rau's 27 total blocks lead the team, as do her eight solo blocks. Recording a career-high six block assists vs. Florida A&M, Rau is currently averaging a team-high 0.84 blocks per set. She also had a career-high 14 kills vs. the Rattlers and averages 1.19 per set.
Did You Know …
- Five of the Wildcats' first seven games have gone to five sets.
- Caroline Brown's 20 kills against Florida A&M are the most by any Wildcat this season.
- Ariel Ley recorded a season-high 63 assists vs. the Rattlers.
- Molly Crenshaw set a new season-high with 27 digs vs. Presbyterian, and proceeded to break that mark a day later with 36 against North Florida.
Attack 'Cats
Despite falling 3-2, the Wildcats produced one of their best offensive games of the season against Florida A&M last weekend. Davidson recorded a season-high .274 attacking percentage as well as a season-high 73 team kills.
Next Up
The 'Cats will open SoCon play on Sept. 21 when they travel to Greenville, S.C., to play Furman in an 8 p.m. match up. They will continue on to Spartanburg to take on Wofford the following day.
