DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson men's basketball coach Bob McKillop announced today that longtime assistant coach Jim Fox has been promoted to associate head coach.
The 2012-13 campaign will be Fox's 12th on the Davidson bench, a little over a decade of one of the most successful stretches in Davidson basketball history. The Wildcats have logged 242 victories during that time, an average of 22 wins a season, and Davidson has played in the postseason eight times, including five appearances in the NCAA?Tournament.
“Jim has distinguished himself as one of the top assistant coaches, not just in the Southern Conference but in the country,” said McKillop. “Davidson's record of success during his tenure has been rather impressive and consistent, and is clearly a result of his presence on our staff.”
The Wildcats have an overall record of 242-110 during Fox's tenure and a 161-40 mark against teams in the Southern Conference while winning eight regular-season conference titles. Davidson has been undefeated in league play twice, and the 'Cats set a school record with 29 overall wins in 2006-07. The 2007-08 squad matched that mark, winning 25 in a row on its way to the Elite Eight.
Four Wildcats have won SoCon Player of the Year honors, including Jake Cohen (media) and De'Mon Brooks (coaches), who won the award last year, and Davidson players have been named all-league 19 times.
Davidson finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 25-8 overall record, marking the fourth time in the last six seasons the Wildcats have posted 25 or more wins. Davidson returns all five starters and the top eight scorers and rebounders from last year's squad.
