Sisson Named to SoCon Baseball All-Freshman Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson LHP Henry Sisson was elected to the 2012 Southern Conference All-Freshman team by the league's coaches, the league office announced Monday.
Sisson finished his rookie campaign with a team-best 4.40 ERA and 4-3 record in nine starts and six relief appearances, and he presently leads the SoCon with an opposing batting average of .224. He threw three complete games, including the sixth no-hitter in Davidson history in a 1-0 win over Wofford on April 13, 2012. The Chevy Chase, Md. native was named as Louisville Slugger's National Pitcher of the Week, Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week, CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Pitcher of the Week and to the College Baseball Hall of Fame National All-Star Lineup for the performance.
The Wildcats have been represented on the SoCon All-Freshman team since its inception in 2009. Recent graduate Drew Gadaire was named to the inaugural team and was followed by rising senior Andrew Barna (2010) and rising junior Forrest Brandt (2011).
College of Charleston center fielder Marty Gantt was voted the Southern Conference Player of the Year while teammate Christian Powell, a junior right-handed pitcher, was honored as the Pitcher of the Year.
Appalachian State head coach Chris Pollard was voted by his peers as the league's Coach of the Year after guiding ASU to a share of the regular season championship for the first time since 1987. The Mountaineers were picked to finish fifth and sixth in the respective preseason polls.
Georgia Southern catcher Chase Griffin earned Freshman of the Year honors.
Appalachian State and Samford led the way with six all-conference selections each with the Bulldogs grabbing a league-high four on the first team. College of Charleston had four all-SoCon selections followed by three from Western Carolina and two from Elon.
Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players or themselves in the voting process.
