Lantz Breaks 800m Davidson Men's Track & Field Record

DURHAM, N.C./SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Andrew Lantz broke the Davidson men's track and field record in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Duke Invitational. The Wildcats also competed at the Terrier Relays hosted by Wofford.
 
Lantz placed sixth in 1:50.87 to break Douglas Noreen's record of 1:51.06 set in 2007.
 
Sophomore Grayam Sailor-Tynes and senior Ian Tupper both posted Davidson all-time top-10 best performances in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in sixth (9:33.44) and seventh (9:34.17), respectively.
 
On Friday, senior Ryan Hopkins competed in the 1500-meter run, along with junior Demetrios Pagonis, and placed 10th in 3:56.86.
 
Juniors Vincent Weir and Wes Reynolds both earned top-five finishes in the second section of the 5000-meter run, placing second (14:47.23) and fifth (14:50.40), respectively.
 
Saturday at Wofford, sophomore Michael Lorentsen won the pole vault with a mark of 12-11 ½ (3.95m). 

Sophomore Pierce DeRico placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.44 seconds and freshman Cyrus Bahram was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.52. Sophomore Stewart Dalton was seventh in the long jump with a top mark of 21-2 ½ (6.46m).
 
The 'Cats were also strong in the relays, led by a second-place finish in 7:58.18 for the 4x800-meter relay team of junior Will Mitchell, freshman Wesley Laytham, sophomore Nate Faubion and freshman Sal del Giudice, which ranks among the top-10 best all-time performances in the event at Davidson.
 
Davidson also ran the sprint medley relay, with the team of DeRico, junior Eduardo Vaca, senior Lee Dorsey and freshman Greg Sargent placing fifth in 3:51.17. The time ranks as the sixth-best performance in the event for the 'Cats all-time
 
Davidson will next compete at Winthrop's Carolina's Cup Friday.
