Weir Leads Davidson Men’s Track & Field at Carolina’s Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Davidson junior Vincent Weir won the 3000-meter run to lead the Davidson men's track and field team at the Carolina's Cup hosted by Winthrop University Friday.
Weir's time of 8:35.06 cracked the Davidson list of top-10 performances all-time in the event.
Sophomore Stewart Dalton was second in the long jump with a leap of 22-7 ¾ (6.90m), which ranks among the top-10 best performances at Davidson in that event, as well.
Freshman Sal del Giudice led a strong Wildcat showing in the 800-meter run with a third-place finish in 1:55.00. Freshman Wesley Laytham was sixth in 1:56.42, sophomore Nate Faubion was eighth in 1:56.88 and junior Will Mitchell 10th in 1:59.00 in the same event.
Sophomore Grayam Sailor-Tynes placed second in the 1500-meter run in 3:56.63 and was followed by senior Ian Tupper in third in 4:02.05.
In the hurdles, freshman Pierce DeRico was sixth in 15.28 seconds in the 110-meter and senior Taylor Martin 10th in 56.64 in the 400-meter.
In other field performances, sophomore Michael Lorentsen was second in the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 11 ¼ inches (4.25m), and freshman David Hutchins was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 39-8 (12.09m).
The meet was the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 21-22 at Western Carolina.
