HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point's Alexis Goldman scored two of her game-high five goals in the second half and the Panthers broke open a close contest by outscoring Davidson 6-1 in the second stanza to take a 12-5 decision in both team's regular-season finale on Saturday evening in a women's National Lacrosse Conference contest.

Davidson saw its three-game win streak come to an end as it fell to 7-9, 4-3 in NLC action. HPU (13-3) closed out the regular season perfect in league play at 7-0 and enters the tournament, next weekend in Davidson, N.C., May 4-6, as the top seed.

Joining Goldman in the scoring column for the Panthers was Mackenzie Carroll with three goals, Sara Kuhlman with two, and Heather Ziccarelli and Christie Dougherty with one apiece. Carroll finished with eight points as she dished out five assists.

Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) led the way for the 'Cats with a pair of goals, while Ann Fucigna (Darien, Conn.), Erin Doherty (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Mary Leonard (Hendersonville, Tenn.) each scored single goals.

Fucigna pushed her points total on the season to 62 by adding two assists to go along with her goal. The sophomore is now just three points away from breaking the single-season points mark of 64 set by Jen Crawford in 2010. She is also six goals away from tying her single-season record in goals set last year as a freshman.

Davidson found itself down 5-0 in the first 23 minutes of the game as the Panthers controlled possession throughout half. Goldman scored three of the five goals for HPU.

Fucigna got the Wildcats offense rolling with her 43rd goal of the season at the 4:48 mark. It sparked a 4-1 run that allowed Davidson to trail by just two, 6-4, going into the break. With 1:46 on the clock, Parker got a feed from Doherty for the second goal, and then less than 20 seconds later, Doherty converted on her 25th goal of the year off a pass from Fucigna to make it 5-3.

Leonard closed out the flurry of Wildcat goals to close the half with her 13th score and just 34 ticks left in the half. She countered High Point's goal at the 42 second mark.

But, the second half was all High Point as the Panthers opened the new stanza by scoring six unanswered goals, while holding Davidson scoreless until the 4:53 mark for the final of 12-5. The 'Cats got off only six shots for the half.

Diane Girling (Lynchburg, Va.), Rebecca Garman (Baltimore, Md.) and Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.) each caused two turnovers apiece on defense. Girling had a team-best four groundballs to push her total to a team-high 36 on the year. Doherty push her single-season record in draw controls to 58 with a pair.

Junior Jessica Melby (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped nine shots to give her a personal-best 134 saves on the season. She also had a season-best three groundballs and caused a turnover.

Davidson will now ready itself for the NLC Tournament this coming weekend, May 4-6, when it hosts for the second year in a row at Richardson Stadium.
