Davidson Men’s Track & Field Wins A Pair of Events at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Freshman Sal del Giudice and sophomore Michael Lorentsen won events to lead the Davidson men's track and field team at the Vertklasse Meeting held on the campus of High Point University on Saturday.
Del Giudice won the participation section of the 1500-meter run in 4:01.56, while Lorentsen won the participation section of the pole vault with a career-best and Davidson top-10, all-time best mark of 14-0.
Senior Taylor Martin earned a runner-up placing, as he was a hundredth of a second shy of first place in the participation section of the 400-meter dash in 49.78. He was also 10th in the performance section of the 400-meter hurdles in 57.61. Freshman Cyrus Bahram was third in the participation section of the 400-meter hurdles in 57.89 seconds.
Freshman Wesley Laytham earned a second-place finish, completing the participation section of the 800-meter run in 1:57.31.
Other top-five finishes for the Wildcats included freshman Pierce DeRico taking third in the participation section of the 110-meter hurdles in 15.89 seconds, senior Lee Dorsey placing fourth in the participation section of the 100-meter dash in 11.35 seconds and sophomore Grayam Sailor-Tynes placing fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:48.91.
Davidson will next compete at the Winthrop Invitational Friday and Saturday.
