DAVIDSON, N.C. —  The Davidson men's tennis team made it two wins in a row in impressive fashion by rolling to a 7-0 win over visiting Winthrop on Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

Davidson earned its third win in the all-time series since 1988 vs. the Eagles, winning for the first time since 1991. The Wildcats improved to 6-8 overall, picking up their fifth home win. The Eagles fell to 8-10 overall.

After scoring a 6-1 Southern Conference win last weekend, the 'Cats earned their second 7-0 win of the year by winning every match.

The match started out with Davidson scoring 8-3, 8-6 and 8-2 wins at all three doubles spots. The No. 1 team of Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) and Joe Schafer (Orchard Park, N.Y.) picked up their eighth win together, while the pair of Kevin Moore (Overland Park, Kan.) and Robert Lightbourn (Nassau, Bahamas) won for the third time as a team.

Connor Evins (Greenville, S.C.) and Chris Mark (Union City, Calif.) finished out the doubles wins with their team-leading 10th victory of the year. They pushed their record at No. 3 doubles to a perfect 8-0.

All five Wildcats then scored wins in singles play, while freshman Nicky Kunz (Hilton Head, S.C.) capped off the team victory with a three-set victory at No. 2 by the score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. The first-year player improved 9-5 in singles action, 3-1 when playing the No. 2 slot.

Evins tallied his team-leading sixth straight win when he forced a super tie-breaker after recording a 6-4 win in the second set. Since the team match had been decided, he and Luka Stanic played a super tie-breaker, with Evins winning 10-5. The sophomore is 6-2 on the year.

Schafer and Mark each won in straight sets, picking up 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-4 decisions at the No. 1 and 3 singles spots, respectively. Schafer evened his season record to 7-7, while Mark picked up his second win in a row and fourth overall victory.

Gee needed an extra set for his fifth win of the season. The senior split his first two sets, 6-4, 4-6, before sealing up the win with a strong 6-2 triumph in the third set.

Rounding out the winning afternoon was Lightbourn, who won his third singles match in a row. The sophomore battled hard and came out on top with a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 5. He has netted all seven of his wins at No. 5 (7-4), improving to 7-6 overall.

Davidson will turn around and play SoCon-foe Appalachian State at home tomorrow, March 25, at 1 p.m.
