The Series
Davidson is 6-6 all-time against Ohio in a series that dates back to 1952, and the Wildcats earned a 2-1 victory against the Bobcats in one meeting last season. The 'Cats hold a 10-8 advantage over Presbyterian in a series that dates back to 1915. The Blue Hose were victorious in both games against Davidson last season.
Last Time Out
The Wildcats saw a mid-week game against Charleston Southern get rained out after winning two of three games over the weekend.
Lehigh starter RHP Nick Cassell and the Mountain Hawk bullpen held Davidson to four hits en route to a 3-1 victory Friday night. Davidson was unable to generate offense as Cassell allowed just an unearned run, three hits, two walks and struck out four in six innings of work for the win in the Mountain Hawks' season opener.
The Wildcats were able answer with a win over Lehigh Saturday and a win over Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday. Junior shortstop Michael Zeblo hit a pair of home runs and three Wildcat pitchers combined to prevent any earned runs from scoring as Davidson defeated Lehigh, 9-1. Russell picked up his first win of the season, pitching five-plus innings for Davidson. Freshman RHP Clark Beeker surrendered two hits and two walks and struck out five in three scoreless innings of work, and freshman RHP Ryan Lowe pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Zeblo hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Davidson a 4-1 lead. With runners on second and third in the seventh, Zeblo sent another ball flying over the right field fence, giving the Wildcats a comfortable 7-1 margin over Lehigh. Junior third baseman Andrew Barna also had a strong day offensively, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, a run and two stolen bases.
A three-run fourth inning capped by a two-out, two-run home run by senior designated hitter Jake Berman powered Davidson to a 7-3 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday. Fairleigh Dickinson had 11 hits to the Wildcats' six, but Davidson's pitchers were able to work out of trouble and strand 16 Knights on the bases.
About the Wildcats (3-2)
Davidson's bullpen has thrown 12-straight scoreless innings, dating back to the second game of the season on Feb. 18, a win over La Salle. Four of the seven relievers the 'Cats have used this season are freshmen.
The 'Cats surpassed their 2011 season high of five stolen bases in a game by swiping six against Lehigh Feb. 25. Davidson then stole four Feb. 26 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson, giving the 'Cats 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts in two games.
Senior second baseman James Cerbie is the lone Wildcat to record a hit in each of the five games this season. Senior centerfielder Drew Gadaire is one of four Wildcats to reach base in each game so far this season, and has a streak of 11 straight games dating back to last season.
About the Bobcats (1-5)
