BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Freshman Presley Parkes made her first career Southern Conference Indoor Championship a memorable one, by setting the school record in the Mile run as the Davidson women's indoor track and field team closed out the indoor championships on Friday at the BHM CrossPlex on the campus of Samford.
Parkes along with fellow first-year runners Ali Cobb and Erin Osment were named to the All-SoCon Freshmen Team. Parkes and Cobb made it on the team in the Mile Run, while Osment did it in the 5000-Meter run.
Parkes was the lone Wildcat to score in the meet. The Western Carolina men and Appalachian State women took home the team titles on each side and there were ten conference records broken in all during the two-day championship.
The Wildcat freshman crossed the finish line to the time of 5:04.78 to set a new Davidson record. She earned eighth place in the event to give Davidson its lone point at the championships.
Three other 'Cats also ran in the Mile run, with Cobb finishing 19th on a time of 5:26.89. Maggie Rickard and Jane Gay also raced, finishing 24th and 27th, respectively. Rickard raced to a time of 5:37.88, while Gay clocked in at 5:52.74.
