DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team started its five-match homestand in winning style, scoring a 5-2 win over visiting USC Upstate on Friday night in Knobloch Tennis Center.
Three Wildcats finished perfect on the night, picking up a doubles and singles win to carry Davidson (3-4) to the three-point team win.
Davidson started the match vs. the Spartans (2-3) by taking the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 wins at No. 2 and 3 positions. Katharine Dicconson and Brites Moniz-Soares ran their record to a team-best 4-1 with a win at No. 2, while Catherine Wood and Frizzi Bschorer scored their first win of the season as a team.
Dicconson, Moniz-Soares and Wood each captured singles wins all in straight sets as Davidson took spots 2-5 for the win. Dicconson picked up her second win of the season at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
Moniz-Soares improved to 4-3 with a strong 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2, while Wood ran her record to 3-1 after a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at No. 5.
Clinching the match for the 'Cats was Nisha Crouser when she scored a three-set win at No. 3 with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Julie Bell. The win ran Crouser's early season singles record to 3-2.
Davidson turns around and will play Campbell tomorrow, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. in a non-conference match.
