Wrestling Sweeps Sacred Heart Tri-Meet

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Davidson wrestling team improved to 5-1 with a pair of convincing wins on the road, defeating Roger Williams, 26-10, and host Sacred Heart, 42-9, in a non-conference tri-meet Saturday evening in the William H. Pitt Center.
Sophomore 125-pounder Philip Elias was Davidson's top performer, earning a technical fall victory over Roger Williams' Anthony D`Anton by a score of 23-8, and pinning Joe Harris in 4:30. Sejiro Littleton (141 pounds), Kevin Birmingham (149), Ian Solcz (174), Scott Patrick (184) and Eddie Isola (285) also went 2-0 for the Wildcats.
“It was a total team effort,” said Davidson head coach Bob Patnesky. “Everyone wrestled really hard to earn the wins. It was great.”
Davidson claimed the first four bouts for a 14-0 lead against Roger Williams, with Matt Zarth following Elias' opening tech fall with a 3-1 decision at 133 pounds and Littleton defeating Tom Sewell in the first sudden victory period, 9-7. Birmingham capped the strong start with a 10-4 decision at 149.
RW would take the next two bouts to cut the 'Cats' lead in half, 14-7, but Davidson claimed three of the final four bouts to seal the victory. Solcz, Davidson's lone victor against nationally-ranked Ohio State, won by decision at 174 before Patrick pinned Shane Parcel in 2:26 at 184. Philip Ernst won by decision for Roger Williams at 197, but Eddie Isola claimed a 4-1 decision at heavyweight for the final margin.
Davidson scored the maximum six points in six of the 10 weight classes against Sacred Heart, as the Wildcats earned pins from Elias (125), Birmingham and Carson Stack (197) and Sacred Heart surrendered the 165, 184 and 285-pound weight classes.
