Swimming & Diving to Host VMI in CCSA Showdown

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Wildcat swimming & diving teams will continue with CCSA action on Saturday when they host the Keydets of VMI in a 1 p.m. dual meet at Cannon Natatorium.
LAST TIME OUT
The teams picked up a pair of victories two weeks ago, as the men downed the College of Charleston 163.5-130.5 and the women battled to a 153-148 win over the Cougars. Drew Onken and Meredith Nakano each won a trio of events, while Kaliya Burton-Akright and Dylan Ludwick each took home a pair of first-place finishes.
ONKEN, BURTON-AKRIGHT HONORED
For their performances in the victories over CofC, Drew Onken and Kaliya Burton-Akright were honored by the CCSA as the Men's Swimmer of the Week and Women's Diver of the Week,respectively. Onken took home wins in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM. He was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay to earn his third CCSA honor of the season. Burton-Akright earned her first CCSA accolade for winning both the one- and three-meter diving events.
ROOKIES CHIP IN
Several of the Wildcats' freshmen swimmers have picked up valuable points for the 'Cats as they make their collegiate debuts. Lauren Malachowski owns Davidson's top times thus far in the 100-yard backstroke (59.88), 200-yard backstroke (2:09.57) and 100-yard freestyle (53.64). On the men's side, Luke Burton boasts the top mark in the 100-yard backstroke (52.81) while fellow rookie Max Schimanski has been a perfect complement to Dylan Ludwick in the distance events, taking second in the 1000 free vs. CofC. Grant Smith also picked up a second-place finish behind teammate Spencer Gill in the 200-yard breaststroke at the meet.

Several WIldcats lead the CCSA in their respective events.
UP NEXT
After the Thanksgiving break, the Wildcats will head to Gambier, Ohio, for the annual Kenyon Invitational. The multi-team meet will run from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.
