DAVIDSON, N.C. – After leading the Davidson women's soccer team to a pair of wins this past week, including a comeback win vs. College of Charleston, Julia Singley was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the league today.
Singley, who has a 3.81 GPA, had a career week leading Davidson to wins at The Citadel, 2-1, and then a come-from-behind victory at home against College of Charleston, 5-2.
In the win Sunday vs. CofC, the forward led an offensive explosion comeback from a 2-0 deficit with career highs of two goals and two assists for personal-best six points in earning the 5-2 win. Singley started the comeback with a loose ball goal off a corner kick before halftime, which cut CofC's lead to 2-1. In the second half, after the Wildcats tied it up at 2-2 on penalty kick, teammate Stephanie Piperno dribbled down on the near sideline and sent a cross to the far left side of the box, where Singley gathered in the ball and drilled home the game-winner in the 62 minute.
Singley was not done as she returned the favor to Piperno by feeding her classmate with a touch pass into the box and Piperno fired a shot to near post. Kelsey Krueger capped off the big scoring afternoon for the Wildcats with a header in the box after Singley sent a nice pass into the junior.
The sophomore took over the team lead with four goals, three assists for 11 points. She has started seven of the 'Cats 14 games.
Singley was also named CollegeSportsMadness.com's SoCon Player of the Week Tuesday for her career day.
The Wildcats hit the road, playing two of their final three road games next weekend, Oct. 12-14. They will face UNCG Friday the 12th at 7 p.m. and then close out the weekend Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest.
