BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Continuing their four-match road swing, the Davidson women's tennis team played at Samford on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 7-0 decision in Southern Conference action.
The Wildcats fell to 4-16 overall and remained winless in league play at 0-6. The Bulldogs, who were ranked earlier this season in the ITA polls, improved to 15-4, 5-3 in SoCon action.
Davidson dropped all three doubles matches, two of them by the score of 8-3, and the final doubles match at 8-4.
Samford carried over its momentum from doubles play and swept all six singles matches, taking each one in a straight set. Freshman Brites Moniz-Soares was the closest to forcing a third set when she pushed M. Janse van Rensburg to an extra game in the second set before falling 7-5. Rensburg earned a win in the first set, 6-3.
Davidson continues its road trip with a stop at Chattanooga on Sunday for another 12 p.m. match.
