DAVIDSON, N.C. — The College of Charleston Cougars earned their second straight 7-0 Southern Conference win as they sent Davidson to its seventh defeat in a row on Saturday morning in women's tennis at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (4-13, 0-4 SoCon) are in the midst of a four-match homestand, but have dropped the first three of it. College of Charleston improved to 10-7 on the season and 2-0 in league matches. CofC owns a 27-4 all-time record vs. Davidson.
The 'Cats' last win vs. the Cougars came on Apr. 22, 2008 when it took a 4-2 victory in the SoCon Tournament to reach the finals.
Despite having used 15 different combinations in doubles team this year, the 'Cat hung tough to start the morning match off. The senior duo of Samantha Galainena and Alison Rauh, playing for the first time together this year, took the No. 2 Cougar team down to the wire before bowing out at 8-6.
The No. 1 team of freshmen Brites Moniz-Soares and Nisha Crouser also played well, falling just short in an 8-6 defeat to Emma Hayman and Irene Viana. The sisters of Caroline and Christin Newman then swept the doubles play for CofC with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
Davidson was unable to score a single set win in the six singles matches as it fell in all six matches. The most a Wildcat was able to score in a set was three games as the Cougars rolled to the 7-0 win.
Davidson looks to get back on track when it plays host to cross-county rival Charlotte, Mar. 30, at 3 p.m.
