DAVIDSON, N.C. — Three Wildcats had multi-goal games, but the California Golden Bears outscored Davidson, 5-3, in the final 22 minutes of the game to break open a two-goal contest in taking a 14-10 decision on Sunday afternoon in women's lacrosse at Richardson Stadium.

Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) paced the Wildcat attack by tying her career-high with three goals. The junior captain got the 'Cats to within two, 9-7, with her third score of the game on a pass from Erin Doherty (Cincinnati, Ohio) at the 24:03 mark.

She also helped the Wildcats tie things up early at 4-all with her first score at the 21:47 mark of the first half.

Doherty was one of four 'Cats to register three points in the game as the freshman tallied a goal and added to her team-best three-assist total by picking up two more.

The freshmen tandem of Paige Logan (Garden City, N.Y.) and Ann Fucigna (Darien, Conn.) each had two goals apiece and each dished out one assist. The pair hooked up twice in the first half, bringing Davidson back from a 4-0 deficit in the early stages of the half. Fucigna got the Wildcats on the board at the 27:07 mark off a pass from Logan, and then, Logan netted her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Fucigna to make it 4-3 with 22:12 left in the period.

Rounding out the scoring was Erin Keitel (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) with single goals, while Jessica Palfrey (Bronxville, N.Y.) picked up her first career assist on Parker's goal with 8:44 remaining in the contest.

Parker pushed her consecutive game streak of at least one goal to 12 dating back to last year.

Cal's Tara Arolla (5) and Vail Horn (4) combined for nine of the Golden Bears' 14 goals, while Arolla added two assists for seven points. Megan Takacs followed by firing in three goals and picking up an assist.

Both Arolla and Takacs scored three of the final five California goals to close out the win.

Statistically, both teams were fairly even. Cal held a 29-21 advantage in shots and 12-11 edge on groundballs. Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.) had a team-best three groundballs and four draw controls.

Both teams were tied in draw controls at 13-all, while the turnover margin went to the Bears 14-12. Senior Lily Graham (Washington, D.C.) had two of the Wildcats' six caused turnovers.

Jessica Melby (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded a new personal-best in saves with 10 between the pipes, while the Golden Bears' Allie Shropshire had nine in all 60 minutes.

Davidson hits the road for a non-conference tilt at 12 p.m. against Lafayette on Mar. 5.
