ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Navy had four players score multiple goals, led by Jasmine DePompeo's five, and the Mids sent Davidson to its first road loss of the 2011 season as they took a 15-5 decision on Sunday afternoon at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in women's lacrosse.
The Wildcats (0-2) fell behind 9-1 after the first half and were never able to recover in falling for the second year in a row to Navy, which ran its record to 3-0. Both teams played in Davidson last year, with the Mids capturing a 14-7 decision.
Erin Keitel (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored three of Davidson's five goals, getting two of them in the final two minutes of the game. Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) netted the other two to push her season total to five.
DePompeo was joined in the scoring column by Aimee Gennaro (3), Caitli Mandrin Hill (3) and Jill Coughlin (2) who each had multi-goal games. Gennaro added three assists for a game-high six points. All three assists came on consecutive goals in the early stages of the second half when Navy pushed its lead out to 13-2.
Freshman Paige Logan (Garden City, N.Y.) led Davidson with her first three career groundballs, while seniors Taylor Ketcham (Hampstead, N.C.) and Lauren Vanhusen (Great Falls, Va.) followed with two each.
Parker hauled in a career-best nine draw controls to give the Wildcats a 12-10 edge in that column.
Between the pipes, Jessica Melby (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped a career-high seven shots, while Navy had three goalies combine for seven saves in the win.
Davidson comes back home for a 6 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Feb. 23 against ACC-foe Virginia Tech.
