Davidson Wrestling Competes at Wolfpack Open

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Scott Patrick led the Davidson wrestling team with a pair of pins at the NC State Wolfpack Open Sunday at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Patrick lost his first match against Virginia Tech's Jon Dickson via a 10-3 decision, but earned back-to-back pins over Campbell's Matt Cox (2:49) and Duke's Dylan Ryan (3:45). He was eliminated in the wrestleback semifinals with a one-point decision to Old Dominion's Austin Coburn, 6-5.
Freshman Ben Hartshorn had a successful day in the 133-pound bracket, winning his opening match against Hunter Carroll, 8-4. Hartshorn suffered a major decision defeat to Adam Matthews (North Carolina), 18-10, but responded with a 3-2 decision over The Citadel's Weston Beck. Eventual third place finisher Matt Nelson (Virginia) eliminated Hartshorn with a 6-4 decision.
Junior Chris Cirenza (165 pounds) earned a decision over Josh Burns of Gardner-Webb, 5-4 and suffered a pair of defeats. Freshman Eddie Isola won his first match of the day against Virginia Tech's Jake Semones, 3-1, but was defeated in his next two matches.
Junior Matt Zarth (125 pounds) and freshman Anthony Elias (133) also competed for the Wildcats.
Davidson will next compete at the Campbell Duals Friday facing South Dakota State and the host Camels. Campbell is competing as a member of the Southern Conference this season.
