'Cats Close Homestand With Matchup vs. Mountaineers on Wednesday Evening

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off a 71-62 win on Sunday vs. Samford, the Wildcats will now try to knock off first-place Appalachian State in the final of a three-game homestand on Wednesday evening in women's basketball action at John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (6-9, 2-5 SoCon), coming off a 1-1 weekend, closes out its second three-game homestand of the year when it hosts the Appalachian State Mountaineers (12-4, 6-2 SoCon) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The all-time series vs. ASU is 21-17 in favor of the Mountaineers after they swept last year's two-game series. The Wildcats have dropped the last three meetings after rattling off a five-game win stretch in the series.
Last year in John M. Belk Arena, Sophia Aleksandravicius registered her second career double-double (19 points/16 rebounds), but Appalachian State put three scorers in double digits and sent Davidson to its first Southern Conference loss, 68-59.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson earned a much-needed conference win on Sunday, picking up a 71-62 victory against Samford behind a 48-point outburst in the second half. The 'Cats were in the midst of a three-game skid and had dropped six of their last seven games.
•The Wildcats shot a season-high 70.8 percent in the second half and used a 22-9 run over a seven-minute span in the period to take command of the game.
•Davidson finished at 50 percent for the game, the second time this year hit has shot 50 percent or better in a contest.
•Davidson held its 10th opponent to under 40 percent shooting as Samford shot 37.3 percent.
•Davidson continues to rank first in the SoCon in field goal defense at 36.6 percent.
•Four Wildcats reached double figures in points vs. Samford, the third time it's happened.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius hit the 20-point mark for the fourth time this year, seventh for her career, with 21 points.
•Aleksandravicius (16.7 ppg- 3rd SoCon/8.1 rpg- 2nd SoCon) has hit for double figures in seven straight games now and also has registered at least eight boards in five of the last six games.
•The forward hit the 100-career block mark, getting four in the game vs. Samford.
•Aleksandravicius is closing in on the single-season school record, needing just 11 more blocks (personal-best 51 right now) to pass Sally Howell's record 61 set during the 1981-82 season.
•Laura Murray had her second straight 17-point game vs. Samford and is averaging 11.5 on the season.
•Murray and Aleksandravicius combined for 24 second-half points vs. the Bulldogs.
•The freshman has been clutch at the charity stripe in league games, hitting 26-of-28 free throws.
•Shneeka Center matched her season-high with 12 points off the bench and Kristen Johnsen gave the 'Cats three starters in double figures with 11 in the win vs. Samford.
•The Wildcats are 4-3 at home this year, 2-2 vs. the league with wins vs. Coll. of Charleston and Samford.
•Both Aleksandravicius and Ashley Lax were named to the coaches' preseason All-SoCon team.
•The Wildcats were picked to finish 6th in the SoCon in both the media and coaches polls.
Scouting the Mountaineers
•Appalachian State is coming off a 2-0 weekend after wins against Samford (74-62) and then Chattanooga (70-54) on Sunday.
•The Mountaineers sit in a tie for first in the SoCon with Elon and UNCG at 6-2.
•On Sunday vs. the Mocs, Ashlen Dewart paced the offense with 28 points and the Mountaineers snapped a 26-game losing streak to UTC. They also kept their home winning streak alive at 15 games.
•Dewart is one of three players averaging over 10 points as she is at 17.4– 2nd in the SoCon.
•The forward leads the SoCon in field goal shooting at 58.9 percent and is averaging 6.3 rebounds a contest. She had 16 points in last year's meeting at John M. Belk Arena.
•Sam Ramirez, who combined for 34 points last year vs. Davidson in two games, is second on the team at 16.7 ppg. She is third in the conference in made three-pointers with 41.
•Ramirez, a preseason all-conference pick, has already won the player of the week honor twice and was the SoCon Women's Basketball November Player of the Month.
•Appalachian State is ranked first in points per game (76.4), field goal percentage (.468) and rebounding (42.3).
•ASU twice has had four-game win streaks this year.
•The Mountaineers are 3-4 (1-2 SoCon) in road games. They have wins against ETSU, Wake Forest and Wofford.
•Coming off a season in which they went 23-12 and 14-6 in SoCon, while also winning the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational, ASU was picked to finish second in the league's coaches poll.
•Appalachian State returns nine letterwinners from last season's squad, including all five starter.
