Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson enters with an 8-2 overall record and a 1-0 NorPac record, and continues to receive votes in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Top 20 Coaches Poll. The 'Cats claimed all three NorPac East awards for the week as Finley Amato was named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week, Sarah Fisher was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Brooke Osborne was named the Rookie of the Week. Davidson's top-four scorers this season, Amato (20 points), Christine Rua (15), Jennie Mostellar (14) and Gray Robinson (12), have all either matched or surpassed their career-best single-season scoring totals. Davidson has scored three or more goals in eight of 10 games, putting them on pace to break the school single-season scoring record of 52 goals, but has won both of the games in which they only scored one goal. Averaging 3.1 goals per game, the 'Cats rank 13th in the nation in the category. The 'Cats have been strong defensively, as well. Fisher posted a .909 save percentage in last week's three contests.
Scouting the Lancers: Longwood enters at 2-8, 0-1 NorPac, recently suffering a 5-0 defeat to No. 2 North Carolina. The Wildcats and Lancers share three common opponents so far in 2010. Both teams have played conference foe Radford, which Davidson defeated on the road, 1-0 and Longwood fell to at home in overtime, 3-2. Davidson also defeated Lafayette, 3-0, while Radford lost to the Leopards, 1-0. Both squads fell to nationally-ranked Wake Forest by two-goal margins. Longwood has also taken on No. 10 Duke and No. 20 James Madison, losing 2-0 and 3-2, respectively. Lauren van de Kamp leads the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for 12 points. Olga Knopp follows with eight points. Freshman Stacy de Grandhomme has played in just four games, but recorded a hat trick in a 6-1 win over LaSalle. Longwood's other win came over Siena.
The Series: Davidson holds a 10-6-1 edge all-time over Longwood. The teams split both games last season.
Up Next: Davidson will play three games in New England, taking on Brown in Providence, R.I. on Oct. 9, Maine (at Brown) on Oct. 11 and Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. on Oct. 11. The Wildcats' next home match will be Saturday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m.
