DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman third baseman Andrew Barna capped off his impressive rookie campaign with a selection to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, as selected by the league's 11 head coaches and announced today by the league office.

Making an immediate impact, Barna started every game for the Wildcats at third base in 2010. Amongst team and league leaders all season, Barna finished his rookie season with a .329 batting average and .519 slugging percentage. He was second on the team with 69 hits, including a team-best 17 doubles, one triple and seven home runs, and 19 multi-hit games.

Barna paced the Wildcats with 13 multi-RBI contests, including a 4-for-5, five RBI effort to lead Davidson to a 14-10 victory over No. 16 Virginia Tech, the team's first win over a ranked opponent since 2005. With a team-high 52 RBI, Barna turned in the eighth best single-season as a Wildcat and became the first Davidson player to top 50 RBI since Jay Heafner in 2005.

Barna also became the first Wildcat to earn SoCon Player of the Month honors since Heafner in March of 2005 when, after leading Davidson to a 6-2 start to start the season, he was named February's SoCon Player of the Month, the league's first honor of the season and just the program's second. Barna earned the SoCon Player of the Month award after being named SoCon Player of the Week for Feb. 22-28, after helping Davidson a perfect 5-0 week.

It is the second straight season a Davidson Wildcat has been named to the All-Freshmen team, as Drew Gadaire was selected to the team after the 2009 season.

The league's head coaches also named The Citadel junior right-hander Asher Wojciechowski SoCon Pitcher of the Year while College of Charleston sophomore third baseman Matt Leeds was honored as the Player of the Year. The Citadel head coach Fred Jordan, who guided the Bulldogs to the Southern Conference regular season crown, was chosen by his peers as Coach of the Year while Furman shortstop Will Muzika was tabbed Freshman of the Year.

Wojciechowski was the SoCon's only 10-game winner during the regular season, fashioning a 10-2 overall mark to go along with a 3.23 ERA and leading the SoCon with 128 strikeouts, ranking second nationally.Leeds provided the power in the middle of the order for the conference's most potent offense, batting .340 for the regular season while pacing the league with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs.

Muzika paced Furman all season, batting .330 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. The shortstop earned a start in all but one game during his rookie campaign, and he led the Paladins with 72 hits and 124 total bases, in addition to the homers and RBIs. Muzika has already etched his name in the Furman record books, entering the school's top 10 single season lists in hits, home runs, RBIs, at bats and total bases.

Jordan was honored as Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches for the third time. After being predicted to finish third by the coaches and fourth by the media in the preseason, Jordan's Bulldogs started 2010 by winning their first 10 conference games of the season. The Citadel led the conference from start to finish, recording the program's first regular-season championship since 2002 and earning the top seed in this week's SoCon Baseball Championship.
