Wildcats Have Successful Week with 5-2 Win vs. ASU in W. Tennis

BOONE, N.C. – Davidson capped off a busy week with its second win of the week by scoring a 5-2 Southern Conference victory over host Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon in women's tennis.
The Wildcats went 2-1 for the week as they pushed their overall record to 13-6 and their league mark to 5-2, remaining in the top-four of the SoCon standings. ASU fell to 9-12 overall and 2-7 in SoCon matches.
The victory was Davidson fifth in its last six matches, which has included a four-match win streak. The surpassed last year's win total of 12 with today's victory and gave Coach Caroline Price her 374th career win.
For the second time during the week, Davidson swept all three doubles matches to start things off and grab an early 1-0 lead in team points. The No. 1 team of Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Teresa Wang (Charlotte, N.C.) registered their 11th doubles win with an easy 8-1 decision.
Scoring their ninth and fifth overall wins together, respectively, was the No. 2 team of Stephani Synn (Conover, N.C.) and Alison Rauh (Trier, Germany), and the No. 3 team of Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Ali Gores (Charlotte, N.C.) with 8-6 and 8-4 decisions.
Four of those six Wildcats then went on to capture singles wins to seal up the 5-2 league victory. Galainena led the way with her team-leading sixth straight win after a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Laura Lanke at No. 6. The junior, who was perfect for the week at 3-0 in singles play, is 13-5 overall and 5-2 in league matches.
Her partner, Gores, made it two straight over the weekend with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 triumph at No. 5, while Synn equaled Galainena for the team lead in wins after a straight set 6-3, 6-0 win over Caroline Mauch at No. 3.
Senior Wang earned the last team point for Davidson with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2, her 10th overall on the season. She became the fourth Wildcat to reach double digits in singles wins this year. ?
Davidson concludes its six-match road swing with an Apr. 14 match at Wofford with start time set for 3 p.m.
