DAVIDSON, N.C. — Fresh off a 16-7 win vs. Lafayette on Wednesday, the Davidson women's lacrosse team looks to keep their hot streak rolling as they play host to Longwood on Saturday in a key National Lacrosse Conference game.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (4-4, 2-0 NLC) returns to league play when it plays the Longwood Lancers (2-4, 1-0 NLC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Richardson Stadium.
The Wildcats have won their last three contests by a combined score of 54-22 over St. Francis (Pa.), Howard and Lafayette. The 'Cats twice have hit a season-high 19 goals during their streak.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series has Davidson leading 5-4. The two schools have split their last two meetings, with Davidson earning a 15-11 home win in 2008, before dropping a 10-5 decision last year at Longwood.
Last Time Out...
... Davidson — Senior Jen Crawford recorded a career-best seven points, while freshman Alanna Parker added a season-high five goals in leading Davidson to a 16-7 win over Lafayette on Wednesday evening.
Crawford helped the Wildcats race out to a 4-0 lead through the first 14 minutes with a pair of goals and an assist on her way to game highs of five goals and two assists in the winning effort.
While Crawford was giving the Wildcats the early lead, the defense was playing shutout ball. The 'Cats defense did not give up a shot on goal for the first 14 minutes of the game. Parker tallied four of her five goals in the second half when Davidson opened up a 10-goal lead on its way to its third straight win.
Davidson, leading 8-4 at halftime, got some separation at the start of the second half, scoring four of the first five goals through the first 10 minutes of the new half to grab a 12-5 lead.
Michelle Pav earned her third straight win in goal, getting six saves. Davidson held a 30-23 advantage in shots, while earning 17 draw controls, six of them by Crawford.
... Longwood — The Longwood women's lacrosse team's comeback bid fell short as the Lancers fell at Richmond, 14-12, on Tuesday. Junior Cara O'Brien led Longwood with three goals while freshman Jamie Brentlinger added two goals and one assist.
Richmond jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before O'Brien scored her first goal with 12:44 remaining to make it 6-2 with 9:21 left in the first half. The Lancers scored three goals over a three minute stretch, two of them by junior Morgan Illian, to cut the Richmond lead to 6-4.
Richmond up 8-5, picked up where they left off to start the second half, scoring five of the first six goals in the second period to open a 13-6 lead. The Lancers turned on the offense during the final 20 minutes as Brentlinger scored an unassisted goal and O'Brien added a pair of free position goals over a three minute stretch to cut the lead to 13-9 with 18:35 remaining. The Spiders added one more goal on a free position shot to push the advantage to five at 14-9, before Longwood scored three more goals for the final of 14-12.
Junior Juli Liebig started in goal for the Lancers and recorded seven saves, while senior Eliza Coughter allowed one goal with two saves.
