DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off a 2-0 Thanksgiving weekend, Davidson returns home to open up the month of December as it plays host to Radford on Saturday afternoon at John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
The Wildcats (3-3) look to start the month of December the way it ended November, in winning fashion, when they battle the Radford Highlanders (2-3) at 4 p.m.
Note, the game time has been moved up from its original 7 p.m. start time.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is just three games old as Davidson trails, 2-1, but earned its first win of the series with an 88-77 victory in the last meeting on Dec. 6, 1995.
Last year the two teams twice tried to play their scheduled game at Radford, but weather canceled it both times.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson had a successful Thanksgiving weekend, capturing the UTSA Tournament Title with wins over North Texas (70-55) and host UTSA (69-60). It was the 'Cats sixth in-season tournament title since 1992-93 when the program was restarted.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius and Kristen Johnsen, both named to the all-tournament team, had monster weekends, combining for 82 points and 35 rebounds, while combining to shoot a blistering 70 percent from the floor, blocking 12 shots, dishing out 12 assists and pocketing five steals during the two-game tournament.
•Johnsen (12.8 ppg- 2nd on team) had career highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win vs. North Texas. The junior is shooting a team-best 64.3 percent from the floor (2nd-best in SoCon).
•Aleksandravicius swatted away a single-game school-record seven shots vs. the Mean Green and clipped the 20-point mark twice over the weekend (5th and 6th time in career).
•The sophomore is averaging team bests of 16.7 ppg (4th-SoCon) and 8.3 rpg (3rd-SoCon).
•She ranks first in blocks in the league with a 4.2 average per game and 25 on the season.
•Davidson's defense held both North Texas (.300) and UTSA (.321) to under 35 percent shooting and has held the opposition to just 28.6 percent shooting in the last four games.
•Davidson ranks first in the SoCon in field goal defense at 33.8 percent.
•The 'Cats had season highs last weekend in points (70 vs. North Texas) made field goals (28), field goal percentage (.500), made free throws (23), blocks (8) and assists (20).
•Senior Chloe Woodington finished with 11 points, eight assists and two boards in the two games in her return trip back home to San Antonio.
•Freshman Laura Murray (9.5 ppg / 6.5 rpg) has registered 20 rebounds over the last two games, including hauling in a season-best 11 vs. North Texas.
•Davidson is riding a three-game home win streak dating back to the end of last season.
•Both Aleksandravicius and Ashley Lax were named to the coaches' preseason All-SoCon team.
•The Wildcats were picked to finish 6th in the SoCon in both the media and coaches polls.
•Davidson returns eight letterwinners, two are starters, from last year's 14-15 team.
Scouting the Highlanders
•Radford is coming off a tough 52-51 defeat to Hampton at home on Monday night. The Highlanders nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the closing minutes, but missed the game-tying free throw with 0.3 ticks left.
