STATESBORO, Ga. —The Davidson men's tennis team wrapped up their two-match road swing with a trip to Georgia Southern on Sunday, but came up short in their bid to finish the weekend with a win, falling 6-1 in Southern Conference action.
Davidson, playing its second-to-last road match of the regular season, fell to 5-13 overall and 1-6 in league play. GSU ran its overall mark to 7-7-1 and 3-3-1 in SoCon action.
Earning the Wildcats lone point on the afternoon was sophomore Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.), who scored a third-set tie breaker win to pick up his second singles win of the weekend. After dropping the first set, 6-1, Lyons came back for a 7-5 decision in the second. Because the match was decided between the two teams, Lyons and Jayraj Jadeja played a super tie breaker, which Lyons took by the score of 10-5.
Senior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.) both played well in a losing effort. Myers forced Gregory Bekkers at No. 3 to a third set, but came up short 6-1 in the deciding set. The two had split their first two sets by the count of 6-1 and 1-6.
Hefter dropped his first set 6-4 to Justin Flynn at No. 5, but did come back to force an extra game in the second staight. His day ended though, with a 7-5 setback.
Davidson looks to get back on track and seek its second SoCon win when it plays host to Wofford, Apr. 8, at Covington Tennis Courts with match time set for 3 p.m.
