Ruggieri Wins 10,000 Meters at Outdoor SoCons, Leads Wildcats to Ninth Place

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Danielle Ruggieri won the 10,000 meters and scored points in the 5,000 meters to lead the Wildcat women's track and field team to a ninth-place team finish at the 2009 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held on the campus of Georgia Southern University over the weekend.
Ruggieri won the 10,000 meters with a time of 37.45.13, and she finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:09.38.
Emily King scored points for the Wildcats in the 10,000 meters with a sixth-place time of 40:03.80. She also finished 10th in the 5,000 meters (18:51.95).
Kittery Neale was the final Wildcat to factor into scoring, finishing fourth in the discus with a throw of 39.39 meters. She also competed in the shot put (10th, 10.59 meters) and the javelin (ninth, 28.14 meters).
"Danielle winning the 10K is amazing, and her fourth in the 5K is great!," head coach Jen Straub said. "Kittery scored in the disc, and Emily scored in the 10K! We are a very young team, but we got a lot of great performances today that point towards a very exciting future!"
The Wildcat women finished in ninth place overall with 23 points. Appalachian State won the women's championship with 210.50 points, followed by Western Carolina (177) and Georgia Southern (146.50). Elon (84), Chattanooga (52), Samford (44), College of Charleston (42) and The Citadel (27) followed.
Kim Colley finished 13th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.49 in the prelims and was 10th with a time of 25.31 in the prelims of the 200 meters.
Brooke Senken was the Wildcats' top finisher in the 800 meters with a 25th-place time of 2:28.59 in the 800 meters.
Sarah Cline finished 11th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:55.14.
Lauren Childs finished just outside the scoring in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a ninth-place time of 12:06.60.
Kennesia Martin was 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.52 meters.
